Gombe Stream National Park
The Gombe stream and Mahale mountain national park combines habitats and species from East and West Africa.Boardering Lake Tanganyika, big game can be spotted here, as well as an amazing variety of birdlife and butterflies species. Chimpanzee treks are limited and should be planned with us. Visitors travel around the parks by boat and then trek on foot.
DAY 00: Arrival at Mwanza airport or by bus at Nyegezi bus terminal, meet with our staff, after short briefing, transfer to the hotel for resting, ( option if it is noon time: do city tour or evening walking within a city centre). DAY 1: GAME DRIVE FROM MWANZA TOWN TO RUBONDO ISLAND
After breakfast, there is another alternative two ways to reach at Rubondo island national park, either by boat direct from Mwanza( 2 – 3 hours – boat riding ) or drive from Mwanza may be accessed on the highway that leads from Mwanza to Geita on the way to Chato and Muganza,kasenda,then take a boat two hours boat safari to Rubondo island.
DAY 2: TWO HOURS BOAT SAFARI TO RUBONDO ISLAND NATIONAL PARK.
Rubondo Island is tucked in the southwest corner of Lake Victoria, the world’s second-largest lake, an inland, lake sprawling between Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. With nine smaller islands under its wing, Rubondo protects precious fish breeding grounds. Is the water wonderland comprising Rubondo Island and nine smaller islands tucked into a corner of Lake Victoria north- west of Mwanza. The park can be reached from there by a two ways, from Mwanza by road or boat trip. Unlike other parks, cars are prohibited on the island: hence, there are guided tours led park rangers, who are usually armed. There is also an airstrip capable of handling light aircraft. The major attraction is the presence of many sitatunga which are indigenous to the island and not found any park in Tanzania. Other animals includes velvet monkey, hippos, crocodiles, genes, marsh mongooses and pythons, several other animals have been transplanted on to the island including giraffes, elephants, rhinos black & white Colobus monkeys as well as tilapia form the staple diet of the yellow-spotted otters that frolic in the island’s rocky coves, while rapacious Nile perch, some weighing more than 100kg, tempt recreational game fishermen seeking world record catches. Rubondo is more than a water wonderland. Deserted sandy beaches nestle against a cloak of virgin forest, where dappled bushbuck move fleet yet silent through a maze of tamarinds, wild palms, and sycamore figs strung with a cage of trailing taproots. Also it is your chance exploring wild flowers like jasmine, 40 different orchids and a smorgasbord of sweet, indefinable smells emanate from the forest. Ninety percent of the park is humid forest; the remainder ranges from open grassland to lakeside papyrus beds. Dinner and overnight at tented lodge/ Special campsite/ Public Camp site.
DAY 3: HALF DAY GAME SAFARI IN RUBONDO ISLAND THEN FLY TO GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK.
Do half game by boat as well as bird watching and visit birds breeding island with picnic lunch, late afternoon, fly from Rubondo airstrip to Kigoma airport then drive to Gombe stream national park, it is about 16km north of Kigoma region, it is a second smallest park, which extended over some 152sq/km of hill terrain climbing from the lake Tanganyika shore, at an altitude of 773m to 1,500m above the sea level at the top of the great rift valley escarpment in western side. DAY 4 : FULL DAY CHIMPANZEE TRACKING IN GOMBE STREAM NATIONAL PARK.
Visit the research center for chimpanzee and studies of wild chimpanzee population at Gombe stream national park ,specialist park ranger who will guide you, giving you special lectures of this massive wild animals, study and watching chimpanzee and the location of the longest running wildlife observation programmed on the planet, started in 1960s British naturalist Jane Good hall,. The chimpanzee study is now in its sixth generations, then game viewing through in the forest on foot along the shores. Then game viewing which usually starts early morning, accompanying with armed guide park ranger who professional knowing the area where chimpanzee nested the last night, then track from there onwards. As you walk in the thick forest while tracking the Chimpanzee, you pass through beautiful sceneries where a place of the senses: the sound of untamed wildlife; Natural habitats, the feel of the rhythm of “Out of Africa feeling”; the sight of an African sun rising across bush forest; the smell of rain on a dry earth; as well as the taste of untamed adventure in the African jungle with picnic lunch. DAY 5: FULL DAY CHIMPANZEE TRACKING WITHIN A PARK
After breakfast, continue your chimpanzee game tracking with your armed park ranger, Your game ranging and bush courses allow you to explore the magnificent this massive wildlife in the World. Always chimpanzee are located close by when there is an abundance of fruits nearby, but when there is scarcity of fruits, the chimpanzee move further away in search of fruits. If you are luck, chimpanzee coming close to the camp.D/O at Mitumba tented lodge/ Public campsite.
DAY 6: HALF GAME IN GOMBE STREAM – THEN PROCEED TO MAHALE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK.
Do half game tracking early the morning with your armed park ranger, climbing up to the water falls at the park, lunch at the bush, then doing boat safari within Lake Tanganyika, late afternoon take a boat to Mahale mountain national park for dinner and overnight at Nkungwe Luxury Tented Camp/park’s bandas.
DAY 7: FULL GAME VIEWING IN MAHALE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK.
From early morning, do your full day game viewing at the park this lovely national park could be described as a tropical beach nirvana, scenically, Mahale might have been transplanted from some uninhabited Indian Ocean with its white sandy beach lapped to the transparent water of Lake Tanganyika. Mahale Mountains National Park is located in one of the most remote locations in Tanzania, on the western border with the Congo, against the dramatic shores of Lake Tanganyika. Accessible only by small aircraft, the park is the home of a large chimpanzee population that is habituated to human contact. The mountains reach up from white sand beaches and clear blue waters of Lake Tanganyika which are home to a myriad of cyclids, and even hippo and crocodile. Watching the sunset over the distant shore of the Congo, sitting on the beach with the mountain backdrop you have the real sense of being in the heart of Africa. Mahale is a larger mountainous region of rainforest offering visitors the opportunity to track and get close to some of Africa’s last remaining chimpanzees; an unforgettable exhilarating experience. Dinner and overnight at Sokwe tented camp/Nkungwe beach lodge.
DAY 8: FULL DAY GAME VIEWING WITH BEACH LEISURE AT MAHALE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK.
Full day game tracking search for chimpanzees that inhabit the forest directly behind the two permanent tented camps in the park are habituated but are not tame and this means that sightings are not guaranteed and finding them can take a gentle twenty minute hike if you are lucky but it is just as likely to involve a strenuous climb to the upper reaches of the mountain and hiking through thick bush. Whilst hiking through the forest is a fantastic experience in itself you must be prepared for a tough hike and a reasonable level of fitness is required. If you’re physically fit and fancy mountain climbing, there is the Mahale mountain chain with its Nkungwe peak at 2,462m above the sea level. Trackers from the camps are sent out to try to find the chimpanzees to help avoid possibly fruitless searches but it is still possible that some days the chimps just cannot be found. However knowing this adds to the excitement of the whole safari and once the screeching of the chimps is heard, adrenaline pumps through your veins and if you are privileged enough to be able to spend time with these amazing primates in their natural habitat then you will have one of the most rewarding wildlife experiences of your lifetime. DAY 9 : FULL DAY GAME FISHING AND LEISURE AT LAKE TANGANYIKA…”
Doing boat safari within the Lake Tanganyika, is the second deepest freshwater lake in the world, contain one of the richest concentration of fish found anywhere. More than 300 different species live within it. Many are endemic to the lake but, are more frequently seen, worldwide, in one home aquarium!
DAY 10: HALF DAY GAME THE FLY TO OTHER DESTINATION
Half day game viewing, then fly to either Dar to connect international flight back to home or beyond destination.
