ABOUT BICYCLE TOURS & VACATION WITH AFRICA UNIQUE SAFARIS & TRAVELS
WHY TRAVEL WITH US?
With so many bicycle tour companies to choose from, deciding which one is best for you can be a difficult choice. We design our bike tours for cyclists who want varying and challenging routes, comfortable accommodations and the ability to experience the area’s best cycling. When you choose Africa Unique Safaris &Travel for your next cycling vacation, here’s what you can expect:
GUIDED BICYCLE TOURS AND VACATIONS DESIGNED FOR AVID CYCLISTS
We offer guided, fully supported bicycle tours in Tanzania. We thoroughly research each of our destinations to find varying and challenging routes and the best cycling roads each area has to offer. Because we’re avid cyclists ourselves, we personally scout each destination so we can provide our guests with the best riding options. Average daily mileage of 50-70 miles with options for more or less.
PROFESSIONAL COACHING AND CYCLING TIPS
Vincent is a Level II UK Cycling coach, so if you need tips for getting ready for a trip or some coaching on the tour, just ask! Want to get your climbing position down or improve your pedal stroke? With thousands of miles behind him on several continents, Vincent is happy to share his knowledge and experience with you.
DELICIOUS, SATISFYING MEALS
Tours include hearty, cyclist-friendly buffet breakfasts and most dinners (multi-course) with your choice of beverage. We select quaint restaurants that feature authentic regional cuisine, wines and friendly service. We’ve found that most people enjoy having a few nights on their own to eat a little lighter or explore the area’s restaurants, so each tour offers a few free nights (we’re happy to provide recommendations). Lunches are on your own each day, giving you the flexibility to eat what and when you want, but we provide a variety of snacks and drinks in the van for each day’s ride.
EXCELLENT VALUE AND GUEST SATISFACTION
More than 90% of our Riders are return customers or have been referred by previous customers, and we’re proud of that. You may find tours that cost less — and plenty that cost a lot more — but we doubt that you’ll find better value for your money! We have no outside staff, no sales team or fancy brochures, so our low overhead allows us to focus more on your tour dollar back into your trip.
EXPERIENCED GUIDES WHO ARE INVESTED IN YOUR SATISFACTION
All of our bike tours are designed and guided (except southern Tanzania trips), so there’s no chance of disconnect between the “front office” and what happens on your tour. We’re passionate about bicycling, the places we tour and the people we meet along the way and are committed to making your vacation an unforgettable one.
GREAT ITINERARIES WITH DETAILED ROUTE SHEETS & GARMIN GPX RIDE FILES PROVIDED
Our itineraries are thoroughly researched, scouted and updated to include the best riding that each route has to offer. We provide you with detailed route notes with elevation profiles and maps so you’re well prepared and oriented. We design each tour around magnificent scenery, traffic-free routes and welcoming accommodations. Rather than selecting the more popular tourist areas, we explore the lightly traveled back roads of each area, discovering quaint towns and enjoying local cuisine.
Our routes often include optional stops along the way so you can explore bird watching, local communities meet with new friends, adventures, wildlife, castles, historical sites, churches and other points of interest, as well as sample the local cheeses, local brews and wine.
OUR WELCOMING ACCOMMODATIONS
We carefully select smaller inns and hotels that reflect the charm and uniqueness of each region. We ensure that each inn meets our standards: comfortable rooms secure overnight bike storage and hearty breakfasts. Accommodations are primarily 1-3 star hotels and lodges, with rooms with private bath/shower.
SMALL GROUP SIZE
We limit our tours to 16 guests so we’re able to select small, family-run inns and restaurants that aren’t possible for larger tours. We believe that a smaller group offers a more relaxed traveling and dining experience and gives our guests a better opportunity to get to know each other.
TRAVEL AT YOUR OWN PACE
You choose whether you want to ride with the group or on your own. We provide you with a variety of daily ride options. The support van is usually available if you decide you want to get relief from a long climb. Our flexible tours allow two travel companions of different cycling abilities to share the same trip, while riding the pace and routes that satisfy both of you.

After breakfast your Tanzania cycling safari begins, The Africa Unique Safari’s cycling team will be there helping you get started for the day, From Arusha , cycle a route going through the plantations of bananas and coffee prior to heading west to the Monduli mountain-range. The Open farmlands lead you past the bottom of this mountain. The soil here is referred to as the ‘Black cotton’ and actually is extremely susceptible to erosion. You will go through the tiny valleys plus Maasai homesteads as you cross the foothills. Carrying a packed-lunch you will have it at a convenient place along the way. Camp at ‘Snake Park’ for the night and there you will have an opportunity to see some of the local reptiles. The Total covered distance will be 40 to 60 km.
DAY 2: FROM MESERANI CYCLING TO MANYARA TOWN
Cycling from the camp, this route follows the aged tarmac road, that patterns to and fro over the brand-new road. It really is split up very much, and sometimes goes a long way from the major road. Following lunch, based on the distance already covered, you either have a lift or go on cycling towards the wall of the Great Rift Valley, which is evident in the distance, plus Lake Manyara glimmering. After Manyuki you will follow the main-road to Selelai village. This is an open region, and giraffes, ostriches, gazelles and sometimes elephants are seen. Camp at a fascinating campsite around the fringe of a Rift Valley high mountain. The Total distance covered is 60 to 80 km
DAY 3: FULL DAY CYCLING IN MANYARA SURROUNDING MAASAI VILLAGES
In the morning climb up a mountain at the rear of the campsite which offers a number of breathtaking sights across Rift Valley and then traverse to Manyara National Park. Your Maasai guide will takes this chance to introducing to you the different medicinal plants which his tribe makes use of. You will return to the camp for a scrumptious lunch. After lunch cycle out to one of the local Maasai homesteads to visit a number of our Maasai friends as well as get an insight into their interesting lives within the Rift Valley. Return to your camp later in the afternoon. Total cycle distance- 20 to 30kms
DAY 4: HALF DAY MAASAI VILLAGES IN MTO WA MBU

Probable views of wildlife as you cross over the vast open plains. Enjoy packed lunch beneath an acacia tree as you cool off the heat of this day prior to cycling to later arrive at your camp in the late afternoon. Total distance is 50kms.Dinner and Overnight at Twiga Campsite in mto wa mbu.
DAY 5: FULL DAY IN LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast today your bikes will be packed onto your vehicles and you will drive to the Manyara National park for a full day game drive. Lake Manyara National Park is one of the finest and most interesting parks of Tanzania with a large number of wild animals.
When you drive further into the park, you can see groups of Anubis baboons and Sykes monkeys play along the side of the road. Bushbucks will appear out of the bushes and it is very possible you may bump into an elephant on the road. Elephants often use the road so that they do not have to go through the thick bush. Also remember to look up once in a while. Just like in Tarangire, the lions are sometimes in the trees and also a lot of leopards live in this area (though you have to be lucky to spot them). If the big cats cannot be found in the trees, there are a lot of birds to spot in the trees. In the evening you will drive to Karatu Kudu Campsite for dinner and overnight.
DAY 6: FROM KARATU TOWN TO NGORNGORO CRATER FOR CRATER TOUR.
After breakfast your bikes will be packed onto your vehicles and you will drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. the Ngorongoro is a unique place because it is not a National Park but a Conservation Area, ; meaning that the entire area is controlled for both animals and local Maasai persons that graze their livestock next to the local wildlife. Following a stop at the main entrance gate, you may get an opportunity to learn about the interesting volcanic landscape, later drive round the edge of the Crater, and there you can look down to its floor to see the numerous wildebeests plus elephants. Afterwards descend to the floor of the crater. This crater walls offers a natural haven for the wildlife, meaning there is a lot to view such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, and, in case you are fortunate, leopards as well. Giraffes are actually the sole animal that you won’t see here because their long legs cannot cope with the high steep sides of the Ngororngoro Crater. In the afternoon you will drive up the crater’s wall and camp at the Simba campsite.
DAY 7: DRIVE TO SERENGETI VIA OLDUVAI GORGE HISTORICAL SITE
Following an early tasty breakfast have a breathtaking drive down the exterior of this crater and arrive at Oldupai Gorge, the place that the Leakey family unearthed the historical remains of a number of man’s very first ancestors. You will later drive on to the stunning Naabi Hill that symbolizes the boundary between the Ngorongoro and the Serengeti which are endless Masai’s Plains. Spend the remainder of the day viewing wildlife in Serengeti. Exactly where you go is dependent upon the season of year; you can spend time at the Hippo-pool viewing these stunning animals lie about within the cool water gladly living together with the crocodiles, view a huge pride of lions as well as the great migration of wildebeests and zebras. You will voyage from the open plains to the stunning kopjes – which are volcanic rocky protrusions that offer shelter to wide diversity of animals and also look down at the extensive Serengeti grasslands. This beautiful landscape will offer you with the best game viewing, and you will with luck , see all the wildlife living in the plain like; lions, elephants, wildebeests, giraffes and zebras, and perhaps the hard-to-find leopards plus cheetahs, in addition to great numbers of birds , including the exquisite Secretary birdsand the ostrich. Spend this night within the plains at the Seronera campsite.
DAY 8: FULL DAY IN SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK – NORTHEN WILDLIFE CORRIDOR
Today you will again rise early for an entire day within the park, going north to see animals and enjoy the scenery. This area renowned for its wealth of leopard and lion. It is a long day’s driving though there is a lot to view along the way. Camp at Lobo camp.
DAY 9: DRIVE OUT OF SERENGETI – CYCLING TO LOLIONDO CONTROLLED AREA
Back on your bikes today. After a short drive to the gate of the national park you will begin cycling. The following 2 days will be along a dirt road with a couple of sandy parts. This route is undulating, and you’ll be happy to return in the saddle yet again. As you are on the border of the national park you may observe more animals on the way, plus many Maasai people. Camp in the late afternoon at a good local campsite within the little Wasso town or Loliondo camp. Out of Serengeti national park. Total distance covered 40to 50 km
DAY 10: MORNING GAME DRIVE AND CYCLING THEN DRIVE BACK TO ARUSHA TOWN
After breakfast drive back to Arusha for dinner and overnight. This is a lengthy drive, roughly 8hrs, as well as being really dusty! You follow the bottom of the Great Rift Valley wall past the open plains home to plains animals, a recognizable sight at this point. As soon as you get to the tarmac road you will most likely fall asleep as you drive the last Two hours back to urbanization. You return to your comfortable hotel. Our routes are rough but adventures!
